A large pharmaceutical client needed to evaluate the market attractiveness of their new epilepsy therapeutic in the US and assess various market launch scenarios given a changing competitive landscape and likely generic introduction.

Approach & Results
The Life Science Strategy Group (LSSG) team of consultants worked with the client to detail and implement a plan to conduct up to 100 phone interviews and Internet surveys with neurologists, general and family practitioners and health plans to collect various research data including AED prescription volume, conjoint analysis, and target product profile adoption estimates under various market scenarios. Using interview insights and LSSG therapeutic and modeling expertise, product launch strategies including clinical development and managed care strategies were developed and revenue forecast scenarios provided. The client incorporated LSSG´s strategic recommendations into its product launch planning.

A top-ten, global contract research organization (CRO) sought to gain greater visibility into the current size and growth dynamics of the market for outsourced Phase 2 clinical trial services, to explore customer preferences and purchasing behavior for outsourced services and to assess its current position and future revenue opportunity in the competitive landscape.

Approach & Results
Life Science Strategy Group´s (LSSG) consultants worked with its client to design and execute a comprehensive research methodology that included 30 in–depth interviews and 100 Internet surveys with key stakeholders responsible for the contracting of Phase 2 clinical trial services at pharmaceutical companies in the US and Europe.  The engagement methodology included detailed market modeling and market segmentation based on service type, customer type, and geographic region and detailed assessment of the client’s performance versus several key competitors.  LSSG´s interactive research and analysis approach yielded a robust Phase 2 clinical trial services market forecast model, rich insight into customer preferences and purchasing behavior, current (blinded) feedback into the client’s performance and as well as several of its leading competitors.  Ultimately, the client utilized LSSG´s conclusions and strategic recommendations to support its strategic planning for its Phase 2 service offering.

A molecular diagnostic assay provider sought to better understand the global market, testing workflow, price, and required content and potential revenue for several molecular diagnostic infectious disease panels and to develop strategies to best position the new panels for commercial success.

Working collaboratively with its client, Life Science Strategy Group consultants conducted 70 in-depth phone interviews and Internet surveys with infectious disease specialists and laboratorians in the US, Europe and Asia. Utilizing LSSG’s extensive contact database and diagnostic expertise, the consulting team validated current and future market size and growth, indentified how new diagnostic assays may be incorporated into existing workflows, determined assay price sensitivity and required and differentiating assay content for GI, fungal and CNS infectious disease assay panels. The client has incorporated LSSG’s insights into its product development program and commissioned a follow-on engagement to assess 3 new molecular diagnostic infectious disease panels.
